As the Second Vatican Council noted, every baptized person is called to follow Jesus Christ, by living according to the Gospel and making it known to others. The aim of Opus Dei is to contribute to that evangelizing mission of the Church, by promoting among Christians of all social classes a life fully consistent with their faith, in the middle of the ordinary circumstances of their lives and especially through the sanctification of their work.

The following are some of the main features of the spirit of Opus Dei:

Divine filiation. “Divine filiation is the foundation of the spirit of Opus Dei,” said its founder, St. Josemaría Escrivá. The Christian is a child of God by virtue of baptism. Thus the formation provided by the Prelature seeks to foster among the Christian faithful a deep awareness of their being children of God, and helps them act accordingly. It fosters confidence in divine providence, simplicity in their dialogue with God, a deep awareness of the dignity of each human being and of the need for fraternity among all people, a truly Christian love for the world and for all human realities created by God, and a sense of calm and optimism.

Ordinary life. “It is in the midst of the most material things of the earth that we must sanctify ourselves, serving God and all mankind,” said St. Josemaría. The family, marriage, work – all of our activities – are opportunities for dealing with and imitating Jesus Christ, trying to practice charity, patience, humility, diligence, integrity, cheerfulness and all the other human and Christian virtues.

Sanctifying work. Sanctifying work means to work with the spirit of Jesus Christ, to work competently and ethically, with the aim of loving God and serving others, and thus to sanctify the world from within, making the Gospel present in all activities whether they be outstanding or humble and hidden. In the eyes of God what matters is the love that is put into work, not its human success.

Prayer and sacrifice. The formation given by Opus Dei encourages prayer and sacrifice in order to sustain the effort to sanctify one’s ordinary occupations. Thus members strive to incorporate into their lives certain practices of Christian piety, such as prayer, daily Mass, sacramental confession, and reading and meditating on the Gospel. Devotion to Our Lady occupies an important place in their hearts. Also, to imitate Jesus Christ, they try to acquire a spirit of penance offering sacrifices, particularly those that help them fulfill their duties faithfully and make life more pleasant for others, things like renouncing small pleasures, fasting, almsgiving, etc.

Unity of life. St Josemaría explained that Christians working in the world should not live “a kind of double life. On the one hand, an interior life, a life of union with God; and on the other, a separate and distinct professional, social and family life.” On the contrary: “There is just one life, made of flesh and spirit. And it is this life which has to become, in both soul and body, holy and filled with God.”

Freedom. The members of Opus Dei are ordinary citizens who enjoy the same rights and are subject to the same obligations as any other citizen. In their professional, family, political, financial or cultural activities, they act with freedom and personal responsibility, not involving the Church or Opus Dei in their decisions, nor presenting those decisions as the only Catholic solutions. This implies respecting the freedom and the opinions of others.

Charity. To meet Christ is to find a treasure that one cannot stop sharing. Christians are witnesses to Jesus Christ and spread his message of hope among their companions, with their example and their words. “Side by side with our colleagues, friends and relatives and sharing their interests, we can help them come closer to Christ,” wrote St. Josemaría. The wish to make others know Christ, which is a direct consequence of charity (that is, the love of God above all things and of one’s neighbour as oneself), cannot be separated from the desire to contribute to finding solutions to the material needs and social problems of one’s surroundings.

May Christ support us all the day long,
till the shadows lengthen,
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in his mercy
may he give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest and peace at the last.

Amen.

I offer you, Lord, my thoughts: to be fixed on you;
my words: to have you for their theme;
my actions: to reflect my love for you;
my sufferings: to be endured for your greater glory.

I want to do what you ask of me:
in the way you ask,
for as long as you ask,
because you ask it.

Act of Faith

O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because you revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

Jesus, Lord, I love you

Jesus, Lord, I love you
More than I can tell
Not from want of heaven
Not from fear of hell
Not for what you give me
Not for what you bring
But for you, All Holy,
Just for you I live.

Divine Mercy Prayer for Homeless Children
Eternal Father .... reach out with Your tender love and mercy, to those pitiful children who wander the streets at night ..... with Your unfathomable love and mercy, bring them back to their families, or to a home You choose for them.

Jesus .... through Your Divine Mercy enable us to help these poor children, with our deeds and with our prayers.

Holy Spirit .... lead many to reach out in love to poor children in distress.

Mother Mary .... send out Your mother's love to those poor children who have never really known the love and tenderness of an earthly mother.

We unite this prayer with all the prayers of Divine Mercy offered to the Eternal Father this day for the lonely, distressed and the homeless children and people of the world. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen

God of lasting peace, watch over those who are fighting in harms way. Set your angels around them to keep them safe. Give them hope, fill their hearts with peace, so they may endure these days when peace seems so far away.

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy was given to Saint Faustina as a pledge that any soul that sees and realizes the gravity of its sins, and finds itself therefore immersed in misery, should not despair, but should, with child-like trust, throw itself into the arms of Christ’s mercy. And it offers grace and hope to even the most hardened of sinners, if only such a person would recite the Chaplet even once.
The chaplet is prayed on traditional Rosary beads.

Begin with an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and The Apostles’ Creed.

On the medallion, or a single bead, say this prayer:

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

On each of the ten beads of a decade, say this prayer:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Repeat the above two steps for the other beads.

On the chain of three beads say this prayer, once for each bead:
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Conclude with the Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina)—optional.

Matthew 19:12 : When the disciples questioned Jesus about not marrying, He said "Some are incapable of marriage, because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven."

Luke 18:29-30 Jesus said to the Apostles "Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God who will not receive an overabundant return..."

1 Corinthians 7: 25-27: Now concerning the unmarried, I have no command of the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy. I think that in view of the present distress it is well for a person to remain as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek marriage.

1 Corinthians 7:32-38: I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried woman or girl is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please her husband. I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord. If any one thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry -- it is no sin. But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. So that he who marries his betrothed does well; and he who refrains from marriage will do better.

I was invited to join a monastery in Central Florida, Kenansville. I have been here since October 22nd 2008. This was a door I have been knocking at for a long time but no one had ever answered it until now. This is where I want to be and where God needs me to be at this time. We are a Cistercian of the strictest observance order. We live a life of prayer and work following the example of St. Benedict.

As you can see from my pictures, I used to work in baseball as a groundskeeper (sports turf management). I had a great time doing that and made some really great friends but, I was called to follow a different path. I will try and keep this page updated for my great many friends. You all are always in my heart and prayers. Thankyou all for your support and prayers.
God Bless!

Myspace Comments - St. Patrick

I had made my confirmation a few years ago and I took the name Juan Diego.
On Dec. 9, 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to a Nahua Aztec peasant named Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, at Tepeyac, the hill behind the present-day basilica. Speaking in Nahuatl, she asked him to build her a church. He went to the local bishop who doubted him and asked for proof.
The Virgin reappeared to Juan Diego and directed him to a rose bush blooming miraculously on the wintry, barren hill. Following her instructions, he gathered roses in his cloak and brought them to show the bishop. When the flowers tumbled out, an image of the dark-skinned Virgin appeared on his cloak.

This event is credited with the conversion of millions of indigenous people to Catholicism. Some say Guadalupe is a version of the Aztec goddess, Tonantzin, who was worshipped on the same hill.

In 1999, Pope John Paul II declared the Virgin of Guadalupe to be the "Patron Saint and Mother of the Americas." In 2002, Juan Diego became a saint.

Heavenly Father, Thou hast given us the gift of freedom to love and to follow in Thy ways and commands. Some parents choose to abuse this freedom by destroying the gift of life which Thou hast given to their offspring. Please forgive those who destroy human life by aborting their unborn babies. Give these unborn children the opportunity to enjoy Thee for all eternity, if it according to Thy ordinance. Assist me in being one in solidarity with Thy little ones by taking to heart the words of Thy Son, "whatever you did for one of these least brothers of Mine, you did for Me." (Mt. 25:40) Therefore, allow me today, Father, to adopt spiritually an unborn child and to offer my prayers, works, joys and sufferings for that little one, so that child will be able to be born and live for Thy greater honor and glory. We pray this in Jesus' name, in union with the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever.
Amen.

Guardian Angel,

I pray that you will go forth around the world

this very day and every day in the future

to join the Guardian Angel

of each person who is considering an abortion

to help persuade them to seek

other alternatives for saving their babies!
