The Article Below helps demonstrate how those who deny God lack purpose. My apologetic response follows the article.
Headline: The Massive Betelgeuse Scientists Believe is Exploding
“Astronomers have gained their sharpest ever view of a supergiant star that could be on the verge of exploding as a supernova. They zoomed in on red Betelgeuse in Orion to discover a giant bubble boiling on its surface and a huge plume of gas that is bigger than the solar system.
Two independent teams used the European Southern Observatory's imaginatively named Very Large Telescope in Chile to study Betelgeuse close up. Their images provide new clues to explain how such enormous stars shed material at such a tremendous rate. It is only a few million years old - a mere youngster compared to the four billion-year-old Sun - but is near the end of its life, astronomers believe.
It seems doomed to blow itself to bits in a supernova blast that would make it brighter than the Moon and visible in broad daylight. One team of scientists borrowed an old trick invented by amateur astronomers to get a clearer picture of Betelgeuse. Special so-called adaptive optics, using an instrument called NACO, helped compensate for distortion caused by the Earth's atmosphere. But then they picked and combined just the sharpest images collected, discarding those made fuzzy by turbulence in the air. The final picture with the 8-metre telescope was much sharper than a single long exposure could produce. Its resolution is so fine it could pick out an object the size of a tennis ball on the International Space Station as seen from the ground.” (End of Article).
God’s Purpose or No Purpose
The above article informs us that the scientists “believe” this star is near the end of its life. Thus they base an aspect of their science on faith and much of it is blind faith: a faith based on dogmatic uncritical assumptions and bias.
The approaching burnout of this star reminds us that the material universe is headed in the same direction. In a materialistic atheist view, everything in our cosmos is heading for oblivion. The second law of thermodynamics guarantees that the whole material universe is heading for a cosmic heat-death. The universe is running down like a clock. And like the star in the article: the sun, all the stars and galaxies will be extinguished in a death by distilled energy. Most scientists assert that in the distant future, there will be a total burnout of the entire universe. All the schemes, fancies, and accomplishments of mankind will dissolve into nothingness. The moon, the planets, the quasars, and all the solar systems will be snuffed out, and with them will go all the accomplishments and intents of mankind. The law of entropy guarantees, without God and His clear purpose, everything will evaporate into unusable energy. All existence will be as though it had never been as it fades into the lowest level of heat energy. All industry, education, art, and civilization will be as if it had never been. This is the ultimate hope of the atheistic materialist: a meaningless universe, without a God-given purpose, meandering toward a terminal dark-out.
Thus the man who refuses to believe in God cannot find any ultimate purpose or final meaning. Thank God we are here and we have a real purpose: To Glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
