Pastors Hold Conference to Discuss

Their Favorite Bible Verses.

A large city’s ministerial association decided to hold a conference to discuss the ministers’ favorite Bible verses.

Pastor Stephen was chosen by the other ministers to moderate the one-day session, which drew approximately 120 pastors.

One by one, the ministers spoke. Each pastor was asked to quote his favorite verse and share the reason the verse was his favorite. Each minister was limited to 60 seconds.

Pastor Scott was the first to share his favorite verse. “My favorite verse is John 3:16,” said the pastor. He quoted the verse, “’For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’ Nothing compares to God’s great love.”

Pastor Simon’s favorite verse was Revelation 21:4. He quoted the verse, “’And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

“What a day that will be!” Pastor Simon declared in preaching mode! “All will be joy and bliss and happiness!”

Pastors Sage, Sebastian and Shane all were in favor of Genesis 1:1 being voted as their favorite verse. As a trio, they sang in perfect harmony, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” The trio then sang, “Praise the Lord for all His creation! His creation must worship Him!”

Pastor Spencer stated his favorite verse was Psalm 100:5, “’ For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

“God is good all the time,” he said. “And all the time, God is good!”

One by one, the rest of the ministers paraded to the microphone. Without exception, each of them declared John 3:16 as his favorite verse of Scripture.

Near the end of the conference, Pastor Stephen announced John 3:16 as the winning passage of Scripture. “God the Father loved each of us enough to send His Son into the world to die for our sins and Jesus loved us enough to give His life for us,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Pastor Stephen told the group the passage he enjoyed preaching on the most was Matthew 14, where Jesus fed 5,000 men plus women and children with five loaves of bread and two fish. “This is one of the most amazing miracles in all of Scripture!” Pastor Stephen thundered.

“But I do have one question about it,” he mused. “I wonder what kind of fish they ate.”

The crowd roared as Pastor Stephen chuckled, “Because the only fish I eat is catfish. When it comes to other fish, my taste buds are totally allergic to all of them!”
