water from a rock

...Or God can rescue his own...

"I am going to stand there in front of you on the rock at Horeb; when you hit the rock, water will come out of it and the people will drink." Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel." -Exodus 17:6

When you read the Book of Exodus you can imagine this large horde of folks following Moses across the nearly bare landscape. These folks are both hungry and thirsty with more concern about the lack of water.  Water is very important and is being rationed. The people have dry mouths as they walk in a landscape that varies moment to moment. They are humbled yet still complaintive and poor Moses is under pressure as all these eyes are on him.  Finally they come to a slightly more fertile area and rock formations and God tells Moses what to do.  Moses strikes the rock and a stream of fresh water flows forth.  The people were hardly deserving yet the lord rescued them.

There is a good lesson here.  Sometimes when a situation seems hopeless and you are stuck between a rock and a hard place, and you feel like giving up, God comes to the rescue.  Your situation may not be a lack of water but you have a real need to solve a problem.  It could be financial or a family problem, but God will be there when you have nothing else to hope in.

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them from all of them."-Psalm 34:19
