Jacob's Ladder revisited...
Posted On 03/20/2011 06:26:09 by PastorZomok

& Genesis 28:10-12..............

Poor Jacob was tired and hungry after a days wandering in the semi-desert, as his people traveled toward Haren.  He, and his people, came upon a place to camp and Jacob was so tired he did not mind resting his head on a stone.  He soon fell asleep and started to dream.  In his dream he saw a great stairway/or ladder.  The lower end rested on the Earth and the top reached to heaven.  Angelic beings traveled up and down this stairwell.  In the dream the Lord calls out and affirms the promises given to Abraham.  He tells Jacob that his descendants will be so numerous that they will spread in every direction. They will be hard to count.

When Jacob awakens he is is astounded and declares that the place he camped at is the doorway to God.  He positions his pillow stone and anoints it with oil.  The place is named Beth-el, meaning "House of God". This was about 1800 years before the birth of Jesus.

We know that Jesus is the mediator and the doorway to heaven.  He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6-).  He evidently pointed at the story of Jacob's ladder (in Genesis 28:10-) when he indicated that he is the door to heaven (John 10:9).  Jesus also gave an allusion to Jacob's ladder in John 1:51, when He mentioned the very "angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man". He is the both our ladder and our Bethel.
