The True Holy Land

In Genesis Chapter 17, verses 5 to 8, and Genesis 26, Verses 3 to 5, God seemingly promised Abraham and his descendants plenty of realestate. Christian Zionists seem to believe that these promises made to Abe and his children are both unconditional and unfullfilled.  They believe that Israel must occupy a territory that reaches the Euphrates to the North and the Nile delta to the South.  If one examines a map they can see that this is a large tract of land that takes in parts of Jordan and Syria...etc..  At the moment "israel" is about the size of our American state of Connecticut.  Many political negotiations are going to have to come to pass to change the present realities!  Dispensationalists teach that "Israel" will occupy a territory about 30 times its present size.  Is this really realistic? 

I believe the apprehensions of the Dispensationalists and Zionists are largely mistaken.  Actually the Bible teaches that Abraham and his descendants would be heirs of the whole Cosmos!  (Romans 4:13).  Also according to scriptures much of what was promised to Abraham and his children was fullfilled long ago. Read Joshua 21:43!!!   Likewise under the rule of David and Solomon Israel was nearly an empire (1 Kings 8:56).  One can research the maps in the back of most good Bibles and see that Israel occupied the territory stretching from north Syria to Egypt.  The land promises were fullfilled in the past.  Those that place much weight on the events of 1948 and 1967 have wandered down a dead end street full of holes. Plainly if "Israel" is to be regathered in the Middle-East than it has not happened yet and the land would also have to go to those counted as the true descendants...Christians!

The Lord provided a temporal place for the Old Covenant People but now provides an eternal rest for the New Covenant People.  Abraham was looking for a city built without hands by God (Hebrews 11:9-10).  The Jerusalem above is free and supersedes the former (Galatians 4:24..).

I would also like to say that even though I don't consider 1948 to have any prophetic significance, I do, just the same, support the little Jewish state.  It forms an important buffer in that region.

I am inclined to believe that it will happen in the blink of an eye, when God steps in to bring it to fruition.  But it is more of a permanant thing, and is prefix to coming of New Heaven and New Earth spoken of in last chapters of Revelation.  I definitely wouldn't put it past God to suprise us in the way He gets things done. Lean not upon your own understanding.  Anything is possible with God. All in all, I look forward to it!!!

I also agree that the promised land was fullfilled in the old.  It was taken away because of disobedience - necessary for us to see need for Christ's gift of salvation.  I think I am guessing that New Jerusalem will be the site of the 1000 year reign, which I take literally, give or take a year or two.  That would be the fulfillment, and completion of promise. Oh PastorZ I think we've had this discussion before and now I'm going to be quiet!!!

It's really not up to any political negotiations...everything depends on what God has said...everthing else is pretty much a farce!!

The land that God told Israel that they would occupy..to date that have not!!!
