I pray that God is with you
As you face these teenage years
That you seek His will in everything
And trust Him with your fears.
I pray that you are pure
In every way you find–
That you are clean for God and I
In body, soul and mind.
I pray that love inspires you
To treat others like you should
And that your loved ones teach you daily
So to insure my future good.
I pray that when I fall for you
You’re more than puddle-deep
And choose to see below the surface
Where my true persona sleeps.
I pray that when sin tempts you
You’ll turn away and smile
For it seems the woman given you
Is worth the bitter trials.
I pray that God will speak to me
So that I’ll know it’s you
And that you and I find happiness
From the day we say “I do.”

I know prayers aren’t always answered
In the way we wished they’d be
But this is what I hope for
And the standards that I keep.
