THE 10 COMMANDMENTS...still good.
Posted On 08/19/2008 19:32:39 by PastorZomok

The ten Great Commandments, that God gave Moses, are often neglected and treated as if they are without value.  Some Christians will even say that they are done away with!  Others have went out of their way to display them, while the ACLU has tried to suppress them, although they usually have lost, thanks to the ACLJ.  What is the true outlook on the 10 Commandments?  Are they still in effect?  Are we still suppose to follow them?  The views on this vary.

Paul had much to say about the Law in the book of Romans.  He likened the Laws of God to a mirror that you look at.  You look at these divine rules and you know that you fall short.  They give you knowledge.  You realize that you don't measure up to them.  You are dirty with sins. This shows that God has to help us.  He has to cleanse us.  (Note: Sometimes when the term "Law" is used its about the Torah- or the first five books of the Bible.  Other times it is about the special 10 rules that God wrote in stone, Exodus 20.)  These 10 special Commandments are not done away with!  They are still useful and are good rules to follow. We are not suppose to follow them with the idea of earning salvation, but we are suppose to follow them because the Lord has commanded us to do so! What has been done away with is secondary ceremonial laws and rules.  Also Jesus is the final sacrifice.  No more lambs are to be slaughtered. God wants us to retain these commandments in our hearts.  The fruitage of our Salvation is obedience to divine rules!

The structure and comprehension of these 10 Commandments is really very wonderful.  Note that the first 4 commandments are duties to God, and the last 6 are duties to Man.  These are actually summed up in two simple commandments.  The first 4 are summed up in the Shema of Deuteronomy 6:4-5, "...the Lord is one, and you shall LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart, Soul, and mind.." And the last 6 are summed up in Leviticus 19:18, "...Love your neighbor as yourself.."  This shows that LOVE works no evil. If you follow these simple two rules you will not breck any of the 10.  Of course you will not follow them perfectly because you are not perfect but my point is made. And you should ask God for guidance.

What does the New Testament say about the Decalogue of God?  Jesus said, "if you want to enter into life, keep the Commandments" (Matt. 19:17). Paul also taught in Galatians 3:24, that the Law is a "Schoolmaster" bringing us to Christ. In short, the 10 golden Commandments are still good and we should follow them as God has commanded us to do---as we look toward our Savior.  (Note: Please let me know if these blogs are understandable and if the text size and color is alright.  I try to write these in a way that is balanced in not being too long and exhaustive but at the same time extensive enough where my points are well made.  I am thinking of a book idea...)

Thank You
